EUMETSAT · Darmstadt, HE, GermanyWithin the Competence Area on Computer Systems Management in the IT Infrastructure Division, the Cloud Computing Infrastructure Engineer will deliver the engineering, evolution and maintenance of the system and infrastructure-level services (IaaS / PaaS layer), including industrial support and services needed for achieving the targeted service levels. The services include the provision of infrastructure and capacity via a hybrid cloud management system (HCMS) and associated accounting services.
The role will provide support on infrastructure and HCMS services to the EUMETSAT teams responsible for system operations and delivery of services to users and to the on-boarding of new internal and external user projects using IaaS/PaaS.
This role would be particularly suitable for someone looking to build on their existing industry and cloud foundation experience with the opportunity to evolve into a knowledge expert and additionally build a career within this specialist sector.

- Manage and maintain the EUMETSAT on-premises hybrid cloud infrastructure, including the planning of its capacity and the definition/implementation of a roadmap for evolutions;
- Manage corresponding industrial support contracts;
- Design new and maintain/evolve existing cloud infrastructure services on the basis of evolving needs and requirements;
- Support Operations/User Services in the on-boarding of new users and projects, by providing expert support in terms of usage of cloud infrastructure;
- Provide technical support to the other teams in EUMETSAT on OpenStack, VMware based cloud infrastructure services and “cloud container” management solutions;
- Automate routine processes and monitoring using industry standard APIs.

- Software development or system engineering background;
- Practical experience with hybrid on-premises and off-premises cloud infrastructure;
- Good and applied knowledge in OpenStack and VMware suite-based cloud stack implementations;
- Hands-on experience with cloud services based on VMWARE, OpenStack and Kubernetes;
- Applied hands-on experience with APIs, automation and orchestration using Python, Ruby or Java;
- Experience in system maintenance of operational 24/7 systems;
- Knowledge of formal system & service development, verification and validation;
- Excellent organisational, communication and presentation skills, pro-active attitude and the ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads;
- Experience of Agile methodology and/or cloud native applications would be an advantage, as well as knowledge of cloud technologies and cloud services available on the European market.

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7146 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
