VN 24/03 Information Security Engineer

Within the energetic international environment of EUMETSAT, an Information Security Engineer is sought to support the evolution, development and deployment of information security services, infrastructure, and solutions for current and emerging business needs.

The Information Security Engineer will work in the Technical and Scientific Support (TSS) department of the EUMETSAT matrix organisation, as part of the growing Security Team within the IT and Data Infrastructures Division (I2D).

The successful candidate will be actively engaged in implementing the forward information security roadmap, with a focus on consolidating information security services and state-of the-art operational security solutions, improving security of satellite ground segments, cloud deployments and Big Data services. The responsibilities associated with this position are flexible, depending on the level of expertise of the successful candidate, as such, EUMETSAT welcomes applications from candidates at any stage of their career, whether newly graduated or experienced senior professional.

EUMETSAT as an organisation is entering an interesting and challenging period, with multiple satellite launches planned over the next few years, alongside a transformational programme of wide-ranging technology refresh projects, many of which I2D and the Security Team shall be actively involved in.

Duties

The main duties will be as follows:

  • Act as the main expert for Information Security incident detection and response. In particular, you will be responsible for the vulnerability management lifecycle, leveraging existing protection, detection and response solutions to obtain the maximum benefit, and coordinating their efficient integration into EUMETSAT’s incident response capabilities;
  • Supervise and coordinate the implementation and operation of new and innovative solutions designed to support security operations. In particular you will liaise with the EUMETSAT Computer Emergency Response Team and other key stakeholders to drive the ongoing evolution and development of EUMETSAT’s Security Operations Centre (SOC), Threat Intelligence, and Threat Hunting capabilities;
  • Investigate and evaluate emerging information security trends and technologies, such as Machine Learning, and coordinate with relevant personnel to identify opportunities to integrate them within relevant information security capabilities;
  • Maintain appropriate contacts with special interest groups relating to information security, and/or other relevant specialist forums.

Skills and Experience

EUMETSAT welcomes candidates who possess either a robust foundation of knowledge, direct relevant experience, or a deep technical interest in the following:

  • The implementation, operation, and maintenance of information security incident detection and response capabilities performed within the scope of an Information Security Management System (ISMS). This should include active participation in incident response activities, and be preferably obtained from experience within 24/7 high-availability environments;
  • The vulnerability management lifecycle, in particular its application within an operational/production environment;
  • Implementation and operation of a Security Operations Centre, ideally with specific exposure to associated supporting capabilities such as Threat Intelligence and Threat Hunting;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills;
  • Critical thinking with a methodical, proactive and organised approach to work, combined with an aptitude for detail and accuracy;
  • Excellent time management and demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure / in emergency situations.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7146 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
