Team leader Accounting and Treasury/ Finance Officer
The European Southern Observatory · Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan Region, ChileWe are currently in search of an experienced and team-oriented individual to join our dynamic Finance team in Santiago de Chile. Your role will be crucial, as you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of all accounting matters. As the leader of the team, you will be responsible for overseeing all Financial Operations in Chile, working in close collaboration with and on the advice of the Headquarters in Germany. This is an exciting opportunity to join us during the forthcoming implementation of a new ERP system.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities shall be:
- Manage the Finance team with 5 team members in Santiago de Chile.
- Responsible for all ESO Chile-related accounting and treasury operations in coordination with the Finance department at the organisation's headquarters.
- Guarantee compliance of all accounting and treasury matters with the organisation's rules and regulations and ensure high quality standards.
- Maintain and control assets accounting for all sites in Chile
- Ensure timely input for monthly and yearly closings in close coordination with headquarters.
- Liaise with partners for cost recharging.
- Provide support for internal and external audits and address audit-related inquiries.
- Support budget related activities and liaise with key users at the sites and at the headquarters.
- Pro-actively support the ERP implementation.
- Availability and willingness to travel to the sites in Chile is required. Occasional travels to Germany might be necessary.

Key Competences and Experience:
Essential Competences and Experience
- At least five years experience of working in a comparable Finance role.
- Analytical mindset and organizational skills with ability to work independently and prioritize activities.
- High level of attention to details and ability to identify potential flaws quickly and effectively.
- Ability to understand and work with complex contractual terms.
- Solid knowledge of a larger scale ERP system (e.g. SAP, Oracle) and the Microsoft Office Package (especially MS Excel).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in an international and multicultural environment.
- eadership skills, to build a strong teamwork environment and inspiring team members to maximise their performance and commitment.
Desirable Competences and Experience
- User experience of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
Qualifications:
University degree with specialization in Finance and/or Accounting or equivalent qualification. Evidence of continuing professional development will be an asset.
Language skills:
The position requires a working level proficiency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken communication skills)

The initial contract is for a period of two years with the possibility of an indefinite extension, subject to performance evaluation and operational needs. The title or grade may be subject to change according to qualifications and the number of years of experience of the selected candidate.
Duty Station:
The duty station is Santiago. Applicants should be resident in Chile, in or around Santiago.
