SMP Simulation Expert (f/m/d)

Telespazio Germany GmbH · Darmstadt, HE, Germany

You are a fan of both computer science and spacecraft missions? You would like to develop software using modern techniques and at the same time play a role in the coming satellite missions? You would like to work in an international and informal environment closely connected to ESAs European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt?

Do what you love as a Software Engineer!

In this position, you will be designing, developing, and maintaining efficient and reliable C++ code for a sophisticated software environment in the space domain. Within a team of highly skilled engineers, you will develop software models for satellite subsystems and help maintaining the code quality, organization, and automation. You will guide more junior engineers and help them in their job, and either report to the technical manager and project manager, or take over this role in a mission simulator for ESA, EUMETSAT, Galileo, or another of our customers.

Show us your curiosity for the unknown!

You are able to understand technical documentation and how different components work. You are eager to understand how hardware works and are able to summarize your understanding. You bring-in experience and ideas how to further improve the approach to model and simulation development, and ensure that our simulators can fulfil the ever growing demands of our customers for higher performance and more advanced features and processes.

With recurring new challenges, your curiosity will be piqued!

We are looking forward to meeting you!

What You Will Focus on

  • Understand how different satellite components work based on technical documentation and translate this understanding in software
  • Design, develop, document and test software in C++ that you can be proud of
  • Develop software models for Linux based satellite subsystems using the ECSS SMP standard and the ESA/ESOC SIMSAT/SIMULUS suite
  • Participate in all aspects of the software life cycle from design through development, support and re-engineering, validation and maintenance, with a focus on delivering high quality reliable software to satisfy our demanding customers
  • Translate the customer needs into delivered features, and become proficient in estimating and defining future tasks of yourself and your team

What You Bring

  • Experience in the design, development, validation and documentation of spacecraft models using the ECSS SMP Standard (or the older SMP2 specification).
  • Mentoring of junior staff
  • At least some experience in leading a team, and the ability to distribute work across a team

Essentially

  • C++ programming language, and specifically the development of SMP/SMP2 simulation models
  • Object oriented programming and design using UML, and specifically the Universal Modelling Framework (UMF)
  • Good understanding of technical documentation, and especially of Spacecraft Documentation
  • Excellent at problem solving, with a logical and pragmatic demeanour
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • For this position a citizenship of an EU or ESA member state is mandatory

Desirable

  • Maven, Gitlab, Nexus, SonarQube, and CI/CD environments using these tools
  • SIMSAT as a runtime Kernel, and the SIMULUS suite of ESOC
  • Spacecraft Operations including ECSS-E-70 (Packet Utilisation Standard)
  • Space Engineering Standards ECSS-E-ST-40
  • Spacecraft Database, e.g. expressed as SCOS MIB or EGS-CC CDM
