Administration and project delivery of SSTL’s IT infrastructure and the provision of 3rd line support to the Service Desk

  • Provide technical expertise in the day to day administration, implementation, and maintenance of all IT Infrastructure elements (Networking, Compute and Storage)
  • Provide technical Project delivery skills
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the following infrastructure services (Networking, Cloud, Mail, Remote access, SAN)
  • Assist with system architecture design
  • Assist with securing IT environments
  • Provide in-depth experience in ITIL methodologies (Availability, Capacity, Resilience, Supportability Management)
  • Support the resolution of escalated of IT tickets and problems.

  • Supporting infrastructure services through design and project briefs
  • Implementing new infrastructure services through project schedules and change management
  • Undertake routine maintenance of infrastructure services such as firmware updates, O/S patch mgt, system upgrades and virtual infrastructure management
  • Provision of 3rd line services within the Service Desk resolving escalated incidents in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the Helpdesk SLA’s
  • Providing technical expertise on all IT related matters assisting the Infrastructure Manager where necessary
  • Review systems architecture and security, reviewing new technologies and recommending improvements

PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in computing)
  • MCSE, CCNA, VCP all an advantage but not necessary

 Min 5 years experience of senior technical support and project delivery within a complicated network environment for an internal and/or external customer IT function. Strong experience involving administration of disparate corporate networks and virtual compute environments including Microsoft servers, Network hardware, SAN/NAS storage technologies, HP hardware, Fortinet firewalls and switches, Linux and Technical (Significant experience with the following)

  • Firewall management, rules, ACLS and VPN (Strong Fortinet knowledge required)
  • Network Switch management, VLANs, TCP/IP networking, WIFI and inter-site communication (Fortinet, Cisco, Extreme, HP)
  • Virtualization environments – (VMware vSphere technologies)
  • Microsoft operating systems and Exchange server roles (AAD, Group Policy, SSL certification. Hybrid environments)
  • Storage technologies – Fibre Channel, NAS & iSCSI (Nimble, NetApp, Qumulo)
  • Hybrid and Cloud based technologies (Azure, AWS)
  • Backup and cloud storage technologies (Veeam)
  • Hardware and Software support knowledge
  • Linux/UNIX fundamentals
