
Future Studies Engineer (f/m/d)

As part of this role, you will participate in the definition of future ESA missions from both the operational and ground segment perspectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Defining mission objectives, success criteria, and overall system characteristics across the space and ground segments.
- Establishing essential mission assumptions critical to system design, operational concepts, operational interface requirements, cost estimates, etc.
- Developing baseline operational concepts, mission implementation strategies, and related resource requirements.
- Specifying operations-related functional requirements to guide the design of space and ground systems.
- Proposing solutions that balance risk reduction with cost efficiency.
- Identifying key technological advancements and supporting studies for their implementation.
- Contributing to the conceptual design and elaboration of future mission proposals.
- Analysing Research & Technology (R&T) needs to inform and maintain a R&T roadmap.
- Collaborating closely with ESA management, project teams, study groups, and representatives of national control centres.
- Master’s University degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Telecommunications Engineering;
- Practical experience in spacecraft system operations;
- Knowledge of Ground Segment systems;
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to coordinate with multiple service providers;
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks proactively;
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
- At least 5 years experience as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer
- At least 2 years experience as a Systems Engineer
- Familiarity with the ESOC environment
- Familiarity with Interplanetary, Observatory or Earth Observation satellite operations.
- Some experience dealing with external interfaces, e.g. Project, Industry, Payload Data Centre, etc.
