
ERP System Specialist

After two decades, ESO is launching a transformative journey to replace its long-standing ERP system with a modern, cloud-based Oracle Fusion platform. The objective is to enhance our operational efficiency, adaptability, and ability for ESO to remain competitive and at the forefront of ground-based astronomy. From Human Resources to Finance, Procurement to Project Management, this transformation will impact every part of our organisation.
We're building a new ERP team and are looking for two talented and engaged professionals to join us on this journey:
- ERP Engineer
- ERP Business Analyst

- Shape the future: Lead the implementation and operation of ESO's new ERP platform, aligning it with strategic goals and best practices.
- Challenge norms: Introduce fresh ideas, question legacy systems, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver an innovative ERP solution.
- Support and learn: Maintain the current ERP system (Dynamics NAV) during the transition, using this experience to deepen the understanding of ESO's processes, data, and integrations.
- Collaborate: Work with teams across ESO and hold both internal and external stakeholders accountable for delivering results.
- Enable insights: Support ESO's reporting and BI efforts by ensuring the ERP system delivers accurate, timely, and actionable data through reports, dashboards, and analytics.
ERP Engineer
Responsible for the technical operations and stability of ESO's Oracle Fusion ERP platform, focusing on infrastructure management, quarterly release coordination, system integrations, and ensuring secure, high-performance operations. Collaborates with internal teams and end users to support performance, manage configurations and access, and prepare for Oracle updates.
ERP Business Analyst
Responsible for translating business needs into functional requirements to guide the design and evolution of ESO's Oracle Fusion platform. Focused on process understanding and stakeholder engagement, this role ensures the ERP system supports operational goals and process improvements. Key duties include documenting requirements, defining workflows, supporting testing, facilitating adoption, and driving change management. Requires strong analytical and communication skills, ERP process knowledge, and experience in cross-functional environments.
General Requirements (both roles)
- 5 plus years of experience in ERP-related roles (technical or functional), with involvement in at least one large ERP transformation being beneficial.
- Knowledge of modern tier one ERP platforms with experience and familiarity with Oracle Fusion highly desirable.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and a team-focused mindset to foster collaboration and innovation.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for learning and adapting to new ERP trends and technologies.
- Comfortable in a diverse, international and multicultural environment.
- Openness for regular duty trips to Chile.
- Early-career professionals with strong potential and a growth mindset are also encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Language skills:
Full command of English is essential (written as well as spoken), with German and Spanish of benefit.
Future Team Lead Opportunity
For the creation of this new team, one of our new hires will also hold the role of the ERP Team Lead, helping define team culture, set priorities, and represent the ERP team to internal and external stakeholders. Garching near Munich, Germany with regular duty trips to all ESO sites in Chile as required.
