Engineering Data Manager – Job Description (Contract)

*The role sits inside IR35*

Key Purpose of Job

An Engineering Data Manager supports the engineering design activities creating and maintaining engineering Parts, BoM’s and component models as per the company standards and practices.

The role reports to the Mechanical Design & Analysis Functional Manager for pastoral care and technical guidance. In addition, they are expected to work closely with other areas of the business at project level.

Key Tasks

Create and maintain both electrical and mechanical parts within the Solidworks PDM tool

Create and maintain 3D models of mechanical parts used by mechanical engineering using Solidworks

Design of mechanical components and assemblies to fulfil customer and project requirements using 3D modelling tools and techniques.

Close working relationships with design leads, analysts, project managers, system engineers and manufacturing disciplines.

Creating BoM’s and managing procurement demand through the company MRP system.

Documenting and implementing design changes using Engineering Change Notices.

Support PDM troubleshooting and upgrade requests when necessary.

Technical Report writing.

Other Requirements:

Flexibility and willingness to support other teams/ disciplines within the department in areas such as Propulsion, Mechanisms and Optical Instruments.

Flexibility to support at more than one site on occasion.

Experience in maintaining libraries of engineering data

PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)

Qualifications

A HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

Proven and relevant experience, preferably in the aerospace industry although this is not essential.

Knowledge & Skills

Competent use of SolidWorks CAD & PDM is essential. Familiarity with MRP systems is an advantage.

Specifying/ identifying appropriate materials, surface treatments and finishes for mechanical component design in aerospace applications.

Good attention to detail.

Competent use of Microsoft Office suite including Outlook.

Effective communication skills and the ability to generate technical documentation.

Good practical skills with assembly and integration experience.
